Best Electric Breast Pump For 2019: Guide & Reviews

Using breast pump to return to work and need to pump several times a day,,,

Like many women who go back to work after having a baby, you will need to find a solution for supplying the baby with the best food-breast milk. With the multitude of electric breast pumps out there, how do you know where to start?

Things to Consider

The Mayo Clinichas some great suggestions for things to keep in mind:

How Often Will You Use the Breast Pump?

This is important. You may be using it to return to work and need to pump several times a day, or you may be buying it as a once in a while date night kind of pump.

An electric pump is the way to go if you’re going to be away from your baby for a few hours.

How quickly will you need to pump?

It takes about 10-15 minutes per breast to pump. If you’re at work and needing to finish quickly, you will want to look into a double-breast pump. This will reduce that time as well as stimulate milk production.

Can you transport and assemble it easily?

If getting it from place to place, cleaning and assembling it are difficult, it’s going to be hard to keep pumping. You’ll also want a lighter one if you’ll be lugging it to work every day.

Make sure also of the noise level. While your coworkers might assume that you’re pumping, you don’t want them to be able to hear it.

Other considerations include the cost, if suction is adjustable, if breast shields are the correct size and if the electricity fails.

Best Electric Breast Pumps – Reviews

These products do have some of the same features such as they’re all BPA free and closed systems. This means that there is a barrier between the milk and the pump to protect the motor and keep things hygienic.

The Final Verdict

Using this extra information, pick the right pump for you. It’s not the same for everyone. It all comes down to personal preference.

I would go for a double pump over a single one because many moms using these are doing so because of the need or drive to go back to work. Needing to pump each breast separately will waste a lot of time, and your boss will probably be unhappy with you.

I recommend the Medela for a tried and true brand, but the Phillips and double pump Bellema would be great options as well. I recommend asking around to your other mama friends and see what they like the most and why.
